Player-Parent Open Hockey Rules
Player/Parent Open Hockey Rules
Purpose: Player/Parent Open Hockey aims to provide GSC hockey players and their parents who want to get on the ice with them unstructured ice time to play together, practice skills, enjoy themselves, and have fun with friends & other parents. The Player-Parent Open Hockey schedule is available on the GSC website under the “Schedule” tab.
The rules below aim to establish clear expectations and ensure a positive experience for everyone involved.
When can players-parents attend?
· Players & parents should participate in their age-specific groups only when specified on the schedule. It is open to all age groups if an age group is not specified.
· When an ice slot is labeled “Player/Parent Game,” attendees are expected to play a friendly game. No checking or excessively rough play is allowed. We expect players and parents to make up the teams on their own and strive to create balanced teams for the enjoyment of all.
Girls & boys play together.
Behavior expectations: All players and parents are expected to consistently demonstrate our ERA values of Effort, Respect, and Attitude toward one another and the staff. Parents on the ice are expected to create a positive and inclusive environment for all players to have fun.
Who’s eligible to play?
· Allowed: All GSC travel hockey players (girls & boys); Stateline GSC members, all Travel Development League (TDL) players, and their parents
· Not allowed: Guests; non-GSC Stateline; hockey players from non-GSC teams
· For ice time allocated to the group “High School & Older”, eligibility: GSC members, vacation members, GSC staff and coaches, and their children who are currently in high school or older. Not eligible: everyone else (eg: friends of members are not eligible).
· There are two exceptions to the eligibility rules above: Thanksgiving and Christmas “Player/Parent Game”
o GSC has historically offered one “Player/Parent Game” on Thanksgiving and one the day before Christmas. Only on those two holidays “player-parent game”, siblings of GSC hockey players who do not play for GSC teams are welcome to participate. This is meant to promote family fun for the entire family on special holidays.
For any questions or clarifications about eligibility, please contact any of the following GSC hockey representatives: Ian Tarrant (203-505-8934) or Brett Farson (917-535-5965).
Equipment required. Full equipment is recommended for safety reasons. However, the minimum required equipment includes skates, helmets, gloves, shin pads, and elbow pads. Players missing the required equipment will not be allowed on the ice.
Rink team responsibilities The Rink team is responsible only for enforcing the minimum equipment rule. They do not decide who can or cannot participate (refer to the eligibility section above).
Assumption of Risk: Player/Parent Open Hockey is an unsupervised activity (i.e., no GSC staff will be on the ice). By participating, you acknowledge the risks associated with playing hockey and agree that GSC shall not be held responsible for any injuries that may occur to participants during Player/Parent Open Hockey.
