Job Summary

The Greenwich Skating Club (GSC) is seeking a responsible, skilled, and motivated Rink Operations Manager & Zamboni Driver to help maintain the highest standards of ice quality, facility care, and member experience.

The ideal candidate has experience operating ice resurfacing equipment, demonstrates strong mechanical aptitude, and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Whether preparing the ice for youth games, elite hockey training, or public skating, you’ll play an essential role in keeping GSC running smoothly, safely, and efficiently.

This is a seasonal, full-time position running from November 1, 2025, to March 15, 2026, reporting directly to the Director of Facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Ice Resurfacing & Maintenance

  •  Operate the Zamboni (or Olympia) to complete timely, professional-quality resurfaces during all scheduled sessions.
  •  Perform edging and ice trimming to ensure consistent ice thickness and smooth transitions along the boards.
  •  Monitor ice conditions and adjust flood levels, blade depth, and resurfacing patterns as needed.
  •  Conduct daily inspections of resurfacing equipment (blade, tires, water system, fuel/power levels).
  •  Maintain maintenance logs and promptly report issues or supply needs to the Facilities Director.
  •  Ensure equipment uptime and cleanliness at all times.
  • Facility Operations & Safety
  •  Willingness and ability to remove snow and water during inclement weather, including availability for overnight or early-morning or late-night work as needed to ensure safe and operational conditions and resume club operations as quickly as possible.
  •  Maintain cleanliness and organization across the club, including locker rooms, restrooms, and public areas.
  •  Implement and uphold all facility safety protocols, including gate and access procedures.

  •  Politely remind members and guests of safety rules in a courteous, customer-oriented manner.
  •  Identify potential safety hazards proactively, take immediate corrective action, and communicate with management.
  •  Assist with special events and high-traffic weekends with professionalism and enthusiasm.
  •  Support scorekeeping during games as needed.
  • Required Skills & Attributes
  • Technical & Operational
  •  Prior experience operating ice resurfacers (Zamboni or Olympia) and performing ice maintenance, including edging.
  •  Strong mechanical aptitude with working knowledge of arena systems, small engines, and tools.
  •  Familiarity with ice rink safety procedures and emergency action plans. Customer Service

  • Qualifications
  •  Minimum 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license.
  •  Prior experience operating a Zamboni or Olympia required.
  •  Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in a cold, wet environment.
  •  CPR or equivalent life-safety certification required.
  •  Experience implementing an Emergency Action Plan in a rink setting preferred.

Greenwich Skating Club, 9 Cardinal Road, Greenwich CT 06830

  •  Work schedule includes 4 to 5 days per week, on weekdays, evenings, and weekends as required by rink operations. The rink operats 7 days per week, 6am-10:30pm.
  •  Typical shifts: 6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m. or 2:00 p.m.–10:30 p.m. (subject to programming needs).
  •  Comfortable performing physical, hands-on work outdoors in cold, wet, and variable weather conditions throughout the winter season.
  •  Must be able to commute reliably to and from the Greenwich Skating Club.
  • Compensation & Benefits
  •  Competitive hourly rate based on experience ($18–$25/hour).
  •  Eligible for overtime pay (non-exempt position under FLSA).
