The inaugural season for GSC’s first all-girls Mite team (ages 6-8) was an

overwhelming success! The season began with 13 girls and 5 additional

joined mid-year to end with two competitive teams in the Chelsea Piers

cross ice league. The girls rated having fun higher than winning, but they

were able to succeed in both. We promise there are some big smiles

underneath the masks below!

How To Get Your Daughter Involved Next Year

Next season, there will be 2-3 all girls Mite teams with 2013-2015 birth dates. Mite

evaluations will take place in early September, look out for sign-ups in your email.

Prior to evaluations, there will be 1-2 “Girls Hockey Open House” events where girls

are given the opportunity to try out ice hockey in a fun, no pressure environment.

We welcome girls that are new to skating and ice hockey.

In addition, head Mite coach Jessica Wiener will be organizing “skate parties” over

the summer to get the girls together, and can offer guidance on hockey camp

offerings. Please email Jessica at to be added to the

distribution list.

Mini Mites

Mini-mites will be offered starting in November for girls 4-7 years old without prior

skating experience. For girls 6-7 years old, there is the option to move up to a

beginning Mite team mid-season based on ability and availability.

Additional Team Details…

There will be two practices each week for all Mite teams. Games will be in the

Chelsea Piers Mite B/C division (Saturday mornings). For the top girls team, games

will be in the Chelsea Piers Mite A division (Sunday mornings) and they will also be

registered in the CGHL “CT Girls Hockey League”. Local supplemental games will

also be scheduled outside of league games.

Shout Outs

A super big shout out to head coach Jessica Wiener who is responsible for starting

the girls mite program this year, and we expect to be a fixture in GSC girls hockey

for years to come!  Also, thanks to assistant coaches Erik Gutman, Daryl Jones and

Harry Schwefel for their time supporting the girls’ program.  Finally, a huge

congratulations and thank you to Kayla Grace and Ian Tarrant for taking the already

successful GSC Mites program to another level in 2020-21.
